Our Welfare Network

Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India) provides seafarers' welfare services through a strong network of member organizations and welfare partners operating across major and minor ports throughout India. These include the Port Welfare Committee of Andhra Pradesh, Port Welfare Committee of Tamil Nadu, Port Welfare Committee of Maharashtra, Global Seafarers Organisation, Indian Seafarers Welfare Organisation, Sea Mission, Ecumenical Ministry of India, Universal Seafarers Welfare Organisation, Centre for Seafarers Welfare, and other affiliated welfare bodies working in various Indian ports.

For more than 20 years, these organizations have played a significant role in promoting the welfare, well-being, safety, dignity, and rights of seafarers visiting Indian ports. Their services include welfare assistance, guidance, ship visits, family support, emergency assistance, counselling, and humanitarian support for seafarers and their families.

The foundation of these welfare services is rooted in the principles of the ILO Seafarers' Welfare in Ports Conventions and related ILO recommendations, which emphasize the importance of providing shore-based welfare facilities and support services for seafarers.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated national platform, these welfare organizations collectively came together to form the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India). The Board serves as a central body dedicated to raising the voice of Indian and international seafarers visiting Indian ports and promoting their welfare interests across the maritime sector.

Merchant Navy Welfare Board (India) expresses its sincere gratitude to the Port Authorities, Mercantile Marine Departments, and the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, for their continued cooperation, guidance, and support in helping our member organizations successfully promote seafarers' welfare in Indian ports.
